in my opinion you should just go buy the head gasket and do it yourself. But do both of them just because of the pure fact that if one gasket is ready to go. the other one is not far behind. I have an 03 FX4 also but i haven't had any troubles with mine. That is just what i would do.

That is not that simple if it is a 5.4. There are special tools needed because of the way the timing chains are. I heard it is real easy to screw up the timing.
