truck 'downgrade'
i've been considering selling my '06 4x4 screw(it's paid for) and buying an '02 or '03. i've got a little toyota beater that i drive to work and haul trash etc. so basically i've got a $35,000 truck that i rarely use. i could get a '02 or '03 (ford of course) for @ $10000 and if i could get what the book says my truck is worth($21-22) i put $12000 in the bank and be happy. does anyone see this as a bad idea? my wife thinks i've lost my mind. opinions welcome

My wife tells me the same thing when i tell her id like to sell my 04' and get an older f250 with a the 460 being WAY better engine, for less money less miles and less problems.

December 2009 TOTM!
I don't see it as a bad idea... I love 97-03 body style. 1 reason I didn't get 04+. I don't have as much power as the 04+ but I love my truck.
I say go for it.
I say go for it.

I say go for it. find a nice Lightning or Harley truck and have a great looking ride that will also have a lot of get up and go. those trucks are out there for 9-12k you just have to be patient

well you guys convinced me. unless someone gives a really good reason that puts doubt in my mind i'm gonna put my truck on the market. i bought it brand new and it was all i ever wanted. but now the new has worn off and like i said i don't drive it much. now i'm thinking i'd rather have the money instead of a shiny truck under the carport.

Stay away from the 4.2. I blew my lower at 94K miles and have been experiencing electronic issues with the computer. You can go wrong with the electronics, that applies to any manufacturer since everyone started going electrically controlled. I'm just trying to eliminate as many of the electrical issues I can. My major conclusion engine wise is to get rid of my 4.2 and upgrade (or downgrade depending on how you see it) to a 3.9L Cummins diesel that's mechanically controlled. For me it's cheaper to go this way because unless its a 6.6 LB7, LLY, LBZ Duramax or a B5.9/ISB Cummins, more modern trucks really have nothing to offer that I actually care about. In the end, its all how you look about your options. If there are more features of the 97-03 series that appeal to you, hell, go with it. But 10K seems a little high for a vehicle with more than likely over 100K miles on it.
