I've replaced the passenger manifold on three of these motors.

Also make sure you don't have a spark plug backing out, that will give you a ticking sound before it blows out, stripping the threads and destroying an ignition coil. Very common on these motors.
I'll take it to an exhaust shop tomorrow to check it out. If its a spark plug coming undone, do you just tighten it up or what? I hope its not blowing a plug!

Just tighten all the plugs to 28 lb/ft to eliminate that worry.

Yes, 28 ft/lbs, no anti seize. I also like to use plugs that are threaded 100%. The factory plugs have an unthreaded shoulder so half of the shank is smooth. The full threaded plugs will buy you some time in case it decides to back out in the future. I think I used Autolite double plats before and are 100% threaded.

That guy b/s'ed you. If your hearing that noise while driving, then it's not injectors. You will hear a light tick from the injectors, but nothing more than that. A tick this loud is either a plug working it's way out, or you have a valve train problem...

Lol thatd be my luck, no wonder he was cool trading this truck for my 93 Lightning. Hopefully it ends up being something other than a plug, as the noise seems to come from the passenger side, but also faintly from the driver side. The tick is loud at idle, you can't hear it while driving unless you're at a low speed roll with the windows down. I'm going to take it somewhere to have it diagnosed, I can't afford to have the truck down if it turns out to be blowing a plug. Thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it.

Is it the injectors or something else?

You shouldn't be able to hear the injectors ticking with the windows rolled down. They tick, but it is very faint.

My bet would either be a lifter tick, or an exhaust leak. But if the truck runs good, and no CEL, I wouldn't mess with anything.

Didn't read the post, but sometimes it's because a spark plug is loosening up.
