I can see how this could apply, if your geared up... since it be a more abrupt change and the engine would wind up quicker.
No extreme at all. There are stock Lightnings that blow all the time because the owner isn't smart and does stupid stuff like the list I posted above. Believe me or not, it happens everyday because of that reason. I'd just hate to be the one I told you so.

Inform yourself before saying anything about Lightnings and L Swaps against what I say. I'm not saying I know everything about them. But i will state that I work on Ls and HDs all the time and have owned myself a L swapped Supercrew lifted in 38s. I know a thing or two about them.

Check out lightningrodder.com, nloc.net, or nhtoc.com for more info.

Been a crazy week!

I'm stuck swapping in my fuel pump. Dropping the tank was a complete pain in the ***. I'm **** outta luck right now, this is my DD and im having to borrow my buddies truck for a few days. I ran into several problems so im hoping to get this fixed asap!

1) I cant remove the "quick d/c" lines that go into the fuel hat. Do i need to do anything special with the clips to get them off? The fuel line d/c tool is not working for me

2) I was sent the wrong fuel pump! I got the 255 for the lightning, i need to one that fits into my fuel hat. I wonder if they have some kind of adapters.

For the quick disconnect all you need to do is lift the center piece with a straight screwdriver then compress both tabs sticking out and push them out through the back side and then it slides off. No tool is needed for this type of line disconnect. The tool you are using is used more in the engine bay area or some fuel filter locations.

The fuel pump will work. I replaced my stock pump with same 255. Just need to be sure and put the rubber spacer around the fuel pump and the hat portion. you do not want metal to metal anywhere in the fuel pump to hat or clamp as it will ground out fuel pump causing it to possibly burn out quicker. You will have to splice your wires as your plugs on the fuel pumps will be different.

I just did this conversion in my 02 f150 4x4 lariat.

Also for me it was easier to remove the six bolts and pull the bed when doing the fuel pump swap. With an engine crane you can do it by yourself.

Rus,

Thanks for the tips on the fuel line disconnect. That makes a lot more sense.

When you say the rubber spacer... Are you referring to the circular one which mounts on the top of the tank? Do you have any pictures on how you wired up the pump for reference? I'm mostly concerned over the insulating and how the wires are sealed up. Unfourtnatly I don't have the walbro 255 connecting end / pigtail which is my concern. I wonder if i can get by without using this?

Thanks everyone for the help! I got that darn hat off and re-installed the fuel hat with the stock pump since this is my DD and i have to drive to work. It was evident that the walbro 255 is not going to work at the moment without some special wiring. I will need to check on how other people had insulated the pump wires that they rigged up. I will re-attempt this in a few days.

FYI this is how the connectors came off, pretty much what Rus said to do:

Evreything out!

I will get pictures tomorrow of the setup before installation.

Been a long week at work. But i have 10 straight days to rip apart the engine and put it back together starting this Sunday. The truck must be complete by then as it's my DD.

But i do have some positive news.

Got the correct fuel pump. For anyone else thinking about this swap...Take your time choosing the fuel pumps. There are like 4 or more variations of walbro 255's you can buy. Get the GSS342, not the GSS340. I also got the 400-1048 installation kit and it the wire appears to literally just plug in. The GSS 340 did not fit properly in my fuel hat since the intake portion was too wide. Note the difference on the picture. 340 is on the right, 342 on the left...Which pump did you use fordmotorsport?

I cleaned the injectors and put on new o-rings. To my surprise one looks fubar'd. But i'm going to throw it on anyways...

Cleaned various parts and the mating surface so the new gaskets will seal up nice. The intercooler was FILLED with oil. I used about 3 cans of throttle cleaner before it looked clean. Got the I/C pressure tested and its good! Note the etching on the i/c, i lucked out and it appears it was rebuilt. Usually the 99-00 intercoolers leak evreywhere and were recalled/
