4x4 to 2wd
I have seen a few posts as far as converting a 2wd f150 to a 4x4, does anyone have a list for a 4x4 to 2wd conversion? Removing the front axle, transfer case, inkages etc... Is it as simple as swapping the spindles after that? Any info would be great guys. Also i got a brand new frame im going to put under the truck, whats the best coating to coat the frame with? I figure powder coating is a little pricey, and i have used por15 but i would really like something that is going to last. Thanks

Really all you can do is remove the front driveshaft, possibly cvs and front diff (not completely sure on that) but as far as using a 2wd aluminum driveshaft and spindles on the front. I don't think it can happen. The frames are different between the 2. Unless your new frame is a 2wd frame...

What benefits do you have going to 2wd?

The new frame is a 4x4 frame i believe, i thought the 2wd and 4x4 shared the same frame. The truck was my grampas so its not a daily driver or anything. I would like to end up with a lightning style truck since its a reg cab stepside bed truck.

It is a torsion bar set up, I forgot all about the 2wd being coil spring. Well I'm wanting to basically build a sport truck for summer fun so the 4x4 is unnecessary and so is the added weight. I will have to try and figure something out.

Damn, is it just different control arms and lack of the torsion bars on the 2wd? Or maybe some coil spring buckets welded on. I would love to use this frame I have if possible. The guy I bought it from bought it from ford in Detroit years ago and never used it but stored it inside for years.
