Not that simple. Ford had 2 different frames made for the front. Ford didnt go to the modular frame section until 04+. Your best best is to find either a 2wd junk truck with a good frame or use the 4wd frame knowing it wont have the same handling characteristics as the 2wd.

If your plan involves lowering, a slammed 4wd will be about the equivalent of a 2wd with a 3/4" at the maximum.

Thanks for the help, maybe I will do a lowered 4x4 then. How is the ride when uncranking the torsion bars? will it be overly bouncy or would a good set of shocks fix that? I have cranked the torsion keys to add height and it is a stiffer ride.

Depends on how low you want to go.

This is a well know member on another site who actually has a lowered 4wd. Using GM 1/2 ton torsion keys and removal of the rear block and lowering shackle this is about the lowest you can go.

With GM 1/2 ton keys and some aggressive lowering shocks the ride will be very similar to a stock 4wd.

The more I look into it maybe what I should be doing is building a 4wd long travel suspension prerunner style truck.

Haha. It sure is. I really just want to make it a fun truck to drive on the weekends and stuff so that would work. Plus I have never seen a prerunner in mass
