Mechanical gauges
Hey all,
I'm thinking about going with aftermarket gauges to back up all the factory gauges on my '02 4.6 5 speed stick.. Can get some relatively economical gauges at Princess Auto here.
I think I can figure out the battery gauge, but I'm wondering about the coolant temp and oil pressure gauges.. I've tried researching how people tap into the lines, where they mount the gauges in the cab, etc.. But I've mostly come up with OBS F150 stuff.
Does anyone have any suggestions for where to tap into the oil and coolant lines for these gauges? I may even consider purchasing electronic gauges so no lines have to be routed into the truck.. Can anyone recommend how to do this, or maybe point me towards an old thread I've missed? Much appreciated!
Cheers,
Reed

Your research skills suck, and think from your lack of self lookup, you should keep your stock gauges.
This was literally just posted, but I get it... You'd rather be spoon fed.
I'll give you this one, but you're going to have to have to search for the other one yourself. I'd try google, use key words and end it with f150 forum, pirate4x4, or f150online it helps narrow the search down to be more specific... Like if I'm wanting to know something about a 4x4 related search I use pirate4x4 after the part I'm looking for.

You're welcome.
Just food for thought. Different makes and models accomplish the same goals in the end (how a vehicle works) so if you learn how do do it on a '90 truck... It's very possible it could work on a '98
Have a good day.

Takes an educated person to craft a post like the one you just wrote buddy.. Who pissed in your corn flakes this morning? I'm surprised that, with your high level of intelligence, you missed that I apologized in advance if there were already posts on this subject.. Sorry that I don't have the time in the day to sit at home, search forums, and wack off to pictures of my grandma.

Lol, from the looks of you posts, I can tell you're young. Good luck finding what you need. I too am one of those people, that don't really have the time to search forums for others, when they have just as much capability of doing so, as much as the next person. (But key words in search fields can cut down the down time)

Last time I did this the motor had one cam. The engine was fed with a carburetor. A vacuum line went to the distributor and some motors even had an inspection plate on the side of the block. I could even see both my hands while changing all 6 or 8 of the plugs. I'd put installing transmission and oil coolers, sending units, gauges and wiring up there with the trip to the dentist you've been putting off. I enjoy working on my truck but I don't enjoy it working on me.
Big Mack, no offense but I don't remember ever tapping into any lines for coolant or oil. But, it was a long time ago.

Anyways, thanks for getting me started. I'll hold my tongue next time I have a "stupid question".

Look, I didn't mean to hurt your little feelers, I'm a very real, blunt, person. Any of the OG's here on this site can attest to me being very helpful and try to help whenever I see situations people ask about, that more than likely not to many other people have done..
I skip straight over the "how many miles should I get" "what oil to use" will this size tire fit" because those aren't worthy of my time. I go straight for the "mechanical gauges" you follow?
If you go back and reread my posts, you'll see I gave you vital information in every one of them. But.... You're going to have to learn to have thicker skin. Plain and simple. Your replies back showed me this.
Seriously, you could have come in here and said, my search isn't that easy on my phone, or I tried searching but I really don't know what words to key in to return a good search, I wouldn't have been set off like I was. It really gets at me when the question being asked, is a question that's been on the first page for the past 4 days. Get where I'm coming from?
Also, you don't have to hold your tongue for a "stupid question" just word questions correctly and actually try to find what you are looking for (I, myself like to know as much as possible about a situation before asking from the more expirianced), shoot even copied and pasted links and posts, let's others know you have tried. If nothing else, someone else could possible learn from what you're posting.
Again, have a good day.
If you have specific questions about a certain thing, and not... I'm thinking about doing this________. PM me, I'll try to see if I can help.

It's more of a matter of "Do the research yourself first. Ask questions later." I have my questions here and there, however I always make sure to look it up before I post a thread.

The problem I see with alot of "questions" is the wording used. If you search here or Google and do not phrase the question correctly or use the wrong keywords it will skew your results.
