Fill up the tank, set trip to 0 miles
Run til 1/4 tank or closer to empty
Refill tank, Divide miles driven by gas to refill to calculate MPG
I don't check every tank, don't need to as it hasn't really changed in 9 years I've owned the truck

Have to make sure you try to refill tank to same height on the fill tube
Since it can make maybe 1 gallon difference or more depending upon when the pump auto shuts off

My wife had a SUV that had electronic calc - it always calc'd too high

How on earth did you keep the rpms below 2k?? Every time I pull onto the highway, she tops out around 3500 - 4000 lol could have something to do with my driving...

The fastest I go under normal conditions is 70mph. I hit 2k @ 70. So unless I'm racing or throwin mud I really don't ever hit the gas that hard.

My buddy borrowed my truck once to pick up some tools he purchased in Georgia. He is kinda cheap which is the reason he wanted to borrow my truck and although it doesn't look real great, I keep it in good running condition with good tires and brakes.

He told me he averaged around 19 mpg on the trip which took place in the spring. He kept his speed below 60 for the entire trip and he didn't use the A/C much

I just tried the OP's method and went out to my truck. Filled up yesterday and drove it 57 miles. The gauge shows full still so I didn't use any gas. SWEET! I think my truck turned into a hybrid or something.

Sorry OP, I couldn't resist.
