Default 4.6L getting 20mpg!

That's right guys. My 03 4.6 is getting 20mpg average. I filled up from near empty, gas light on. Pump said 19.682. So let's call it 20 gallons. My trip computer said 709.1 at fill up. It now says 810(driven 100.9 miles since full up) and I'm at a quarter tank. 4.92 gallons so let's say I've used 5 gallons. The math brings us to 20.18mpg! All I did was make sure to keep the rpms at 2k an under

Did you actually refill the tank & it took 4.92 gallons
Or you're just guessing ?

I'm at a quarter tank. Pump read 19.682. Obviously I wasn't completely empty so it was probably 20 gallons at full. 19.682 divided by 4 is 4.9205. So a quarter tank would be roughly 4.92 gallons

Meaning the needle on the gauge is not an accurate measure of how much gas you've used
Meaning your results are not accurate

Considering a 20 gallon tank wasn't even an option, that blows your theory of your mpg out of the water.

Also, just cause you're needle says your at 3/4 does not mean youve used exactly 1/4 of the fuel in your tank. Its a general estimate by the nature of how fuel level is determined.

Fill up, then take the miles you've driven since last fill and divide it by the number of gallons put in.

All you've done here is slapped a sign on your forehead...figuratively. This is why I never believe people when they say they get some outlandish and crazy mpg out of a stock truck.

For one as far as I know these trucks didn't come with a 20 gallon tank secondly even if they did 15 gallons going into 100 miles is around 6

I'll check the mileage again at half, and again at empty. We will see if it changes much
