hey guys im seventeen and im gettin my first truck in a couple weeks and i was wondering if a 2wd f150 is good in mud and what is a good lift and tires to go in the mud with

well a few questions first
1. is it the 5.4 or 4.6 liter
2. are you keeping the same rims
3. how much do you have to spend lifts are pretty expensive
4. are you looking at performance upgrades also

you can have fun and go through mud in a 2wd just a well as you can with a 4wd just make sure you got someone there that can pull you out. I would stay away from really wet and deep mud. i have a 4wd truck and i'm starting to wish i would have just bought a 2wd because since i've had the truck i've never went through mud that was bad enough to even put it in 4wd and plus there alot cheaper too.
as far as lifts go there are alot of good brands and it depends on if you wanna do a body lift or a supension lift but some good brands are fabtech, pro comp, rancho, skyjacker there are alot more brands and most of them make 2wd lift kits.

hi well its a 4.2 i would like to keep same rims but if i have to i will get different ones um i have about 2grand to spend and not really looking at performance upgrades

this is my 2003 F-150 Sport. its 2wd and has the 4.2 v6 with a 2 in lift and 33 in BFG all terians. i have a pretty good time with my truck in the mud

With two grand there are a number of routes you could go. First off you need to find out if your truck has limited slip. If it does not then forget about going mudding unless you have people to pull you out all the time because only one tire will spin when you get into anything slick. I have heard about people not even being able to get their 2wd trucks to drive in one inch of snow because they dont have limited slip. I dont think you have much to worry about with the v6.

Now in terms of lifts...a lot depends on if you are installing it yourself and how many inches you want. For 2 grand doing the install yourself you could get a six inch suspension lift and new tires.

If I were you and had 2 grand to spend on a lift kit I would buy a fabtech 6 inch spindle lift. If you search around online you can find them cheaper if you buy the two boxes separately. I would say around $1300 shipping included. And then you could probably find some new tires on craiglist for $700.

There are a ton of options you can go with including body lifts, larger springs in the front, spring spacers and blocks in the back. If you want me to explain any of this post it on my wall or PM me. I have been looking into lifting my 2wd for a while so I have been doing a bunch of research.

i have a fabtech lift on my 2wd 2002 F-150. I bought the truck lifted already but i think mine is a 6" and i had 315/75/16 tires (35" 12.5") and they did very well in the mud the first time i used them, but they wore down so i went to a 33" Mickey thompson all terrain. But with that V-6, if i were you i would go with a 33" pro-comp mud terrain. but thats just my opinion, ive never goteen stuck in mud (knock on wood haha) and ive been in stuff up to the center cap of the wheel. A lot of people use 4x4 when they dont have to. 2wd will do fine, but 35" tires are hard on gas. I was 16 when i got my truck and i love it. I have a bone stock motor other than the exhaust and i have plenty of power. 33" mud terrains should work. I wouldnt get boggers tho, they look call but they wear horribly and are noisy as can be. message me if you have any questions

well all i have on my truck is a leveling kit and 33 inch mud grapplers and i went through some deep stuff this weekend in 2 wheel drive

the tires are quite expensive and loud but if you have the money and dont mind the noise they are awsome in the mud

that said i have the 5.4 and not sure how a 4.2 would do with those tires but sounds like people have givin you good advice i wanna see the whole truck when you get do sounds awsome

see i was thinking about getting a 7.5 inch suspension lift kit, for 1300 from fabtech, my truck is also 2wd, and put 35'' tires on it.
