Default 285/75/17 or 285/70/17 tire?

It seems most people go with a 285/70 for a stock truck, which is around 32.7 inches. The 285/75 is roughly 33.8.

I have a stock 98 f150 4x4. Can I go with the 285/75 with just the t-bars cranked all the way, or should I stick with the 285/70?

Thanks

285/75 is for a 16 inch rim. 285/70 is for a 17 inch rim. So if you have a 17 inch rim you can get 285/70/17s which is the same size as 285/75/16s

The chart I was looking at had 285/75 for a 17 inch, so that's why I started thinking about those. I want bigger tires then a 285/70 but I don't want to do any trimming. So it looks like I will go with the 285/70s.

Thanks

You will most likely have to trim with the 285/75, possibly even with the 70's.

if you want a tire bigger than a 285/70 then get a 295/70 or 305/70 the 295s are 33.3x11.6/17 and the 305s are 33.8x12/17 you might need to trim to fit the 305s

Toyo makes a 285x75x17 (34x11.5) kind of odd size but they look great.

Interesting, ya, I never knew anybody made that size tire.

But like everbody else is saying, just get a 295/70/17 or a 305/70/17

They also have a 305x65x17 (33x12.5) I had the 295x70x17 Toyo MT's on my '04 and they were a great size tire for a leveled 4x4.

I don't think I want to go any wider than a 295, so I think I will see what I can get the best deal on.

It has been a while since I've looked at truck tires, but damn do they seem pricier than I remember.

Anyone have any opinions on the Nitto Terra grappler?
