Use the search and you'll find 100's of threads on MPG. I've posted a list of 30+ things you can do to improve it. Find the list and start at the top and work your way down.
Okay, you say it isn't about "miles per tank" but the tank is 25 gallons and if 25 gallons of gasoline will get you 250 miles before my engine quits running how is that any different than using 10 gallons to go 100 miles.

Point is your truck is sucking gas at a horrible rate. Mine unburdened gets above 15 mpg on the norm. 5.4 33's 3.55s

Per tank figures are highly subjective. I get about 230-260 per tank. But i also fill up once i have a bit less than a 1/4 tank left. Not sure on my tank capacity either. Fyi thats around 13 14mpg for me. Anything around those figures is average for these trucks.

You don't run your tank empty though. You would burnout/wreck fuel pumps doing that.

There are less variables figuring it via miles per gallon.

2001 Lariat 4X4, 5.4, 3.55... running 265/70/17 = 12 to 14 mpg
running 285/70/17 = 10 to 12.5 mpg
Just keep it under 2K rpm to max mpg... my $0.02

So you wait till you run out of gas till you fill up?

If not, then you need to know how many gallons of gas you use for the number of miles you drove.
