Hi, I'm looking for help finding out where my ticking noise is. I have 68,000 mi. on the truck. About a week ago I started the truck in the morning and I heard a ticking noise that sounded like the motor. I't did it under load, but not when revving in park. Yesterday I lifted the hood while running and couldn't hear it at all. I ran the throttle by hand and I can hear it only when I snap the throttle quickly. It sound like it's around the egr valve area, not really in the motor.
Now my check engine light is on. The codes P1405, and P0405 are coming up and seem to have something to do with the egr. If anyone has heard of this or has an idea that would help I would appreciate it.
a ticking noise could be a couple of different things. low oil level or old oil can cause your lifters to not fully pump with oil making them chatter.. a ticking noise could also very well be an exhaust leak such as a cracked manifold or loose exhaust pipe.. those arent the only 2 options of course, but that is my 2 cents.
Thanks for you advice Cain. Two days after it started I changed my oil & filter, but it didn't help. I also looked over my exhaust manifold to look for broken studs. They were all there, but it might be a leak somewhere else.
Just wanted to post that I found the problem. It was just a dry-rotted hose that went from the steel manifold tube to the egr pressure sensor. It was cracked wide open and the noise I heard was exhaust.
