I have a '03 f150 that the 4x4 will not engage. When I switch to 4H I can hear it sound like it's locking in but the front does not turn. I can also put it in 4L, the truck engages and the rear turns in the low mode but not the front.

I checked fuses, relays and the plug for the motor.

Any ideas what to check next?

check the shift fork, mine was going when i did my gears we just put in a new one before it totally busted.

Yes, found the problem. Went to change the gears and the plastic tabs (I do not know the proper name) were broke.

How difficult/expensive was it to fix it?
