2003 5.4L 2V Procharger - Best Performance
Hello All!!
This is my first post on F150forum.com, first of many I imagine.
I recently had a D1SC Procharger installed in my 2003 F-150 King Ranch SuperCrew with a 5.4L 2V. I purchased the High Output model with the Fuel Pump, the 3 Core Intercooler and the FMU. Before that I installed the JBA Headers, 3" Magnaflo Cat-Back, High Temp Spark Plugs, and the Throttle body spacer.
I ordered in the 90mm MAF from Ford Racing as well as the 42# Ford Racing Injectors as well as A-Pillar Guage set with digital A/F, Fuel Pressure, and the Boost Guages.
I have been getting it tuned in at a local performance shop with the dyno, but my question is...do I need the 42# injectors? My mechanic has reservations on whether they are needed due to the higher pressure from the ATI provided Fuel Pump.
Now don't get me wrong, I have faith in my mechanic and the shop, but I keep reading similar setups utilizing the larger injectors. Will the larger injectors just dump too much fuel in and be a waste of money?
Thanks all,
Mission

ditch the FMU, get a 255hp pump or even the lightning pump system and get it tuned then. always go overkill on the injectors, they will run under 100% duty cycle in the case of the 42lb injectors...The transfer function on the injectors will be programmed by the tuner and you will be fine. What software is he tuning with?

obusnizzle,
He is using my Diablo Predator U7153. So, I imagine the injector slope would be where it would need adjustment for the 42LB injectors, correct?
What is the rating on the fuel pump that comes with the system, do you know?
Why ditch the FMU, just for my quest for knowledge (curiousity)?
Thanks,

Well, here I am again. I had the 90mm Ford Racing MAF installed (they had to customize the tubing to fit), the A-Pillar with A/F Guage, the Fuel Pressure Guage, and the Boost Guage. They did not install the Ford Racing 42# Injectors. They had to replace the plugs with a step hotter (NGK).
I pulled out of the shop and noticed the CEL on, so I checked the codes and it is throwing the P0174 and P0171 (left and right bank running lean), so I cleared the codes and ran it through the city with no return. I then drove it back across and got to a point where I could open it up again. The CEL came on immediately. I pulled it into a gas station checked and same codes again. I then pulled out the DiabloSport Predator and set the fuel richer two notches at the 3K+ range took it out to open it up again and no CEL.
It is still bogging at certain areas of the shift range including low end and high end. Should I just find another shop and have them install the 42# injectors, remove the FMU and dyno tune it?
The fuel pressure is 30psi at lowend with a -6 boost and raises to 80psi at 14psi boost. The A/F is around 14 - 15 steady.
Anyone in the Calgary area have a shop to recommend?

First of all ditch the NGKs.. All we run in our turbo car with 20 lbs of boost is Autolite plugs.. Works GREAT. If you had the truck dyno tuned what was the AF when he finished? IF you have not had it tuned yet then you need to go straight there...If you have not had it tuned you really should not be getting on it.

obusnizzle,
I am going to have the FMU removed, the 42# injectors (ordered), and the pump installed. I have an appointment with another shop who works with Fords, racing, etc., but couldn't get in until the 11th of September. I am currently working with the fantastic support at DiabloSport on getting the proper tune to get me to the 11th.
Also, I am running the NGK TR7IX Iridium plugs, so they should handle the boosted application.
Thanks,
Mission

Well, I thought I would update y'all... I received the 42LB Ford Racing injectors on Thursday and installed them on Saturday. I also removed the FMU and installed a MAF.ia from DiabloSport. I had a base tune installed on Thursday as well, so running the MAF.ia on setting 3 it is running pretty good.
I have an appointment for the Dyno tomorrow morning at 9AM. I will post the numbers tomorrow night.
