I believe that's what Toyota uses from the factory. Or is that Denso? I know I've seen NGK before, but my memory definitely isn't the most reliable thing.

I had a similar problem with my 4.6L. Turns out both of my coils packs and plugs were out of spec, and my plugs were in pretty rough shape.

The two valve motors do not have the infamous "3 piece plug", but they can still get seized in there pretty good.

If the truck has 100k+ miles I would recommend coils plugs and wires for sure. Use motorcraft parts unless you are willing to chance more misfire down the road. Use a good platinum plug like NKG.

He most likley doesn't have coil packs in that one moto823. It's possible though, Ford quit using coil packs in 02 for the 4.6L's and went with the COP systems instead. Dedicated coils, one per cylinder vs the pack (for multiple cylinders). However, some 02's still ended up with packs.

OP, you'll need to clarify either/or. You most likley just have the coils like the 5.4L's. Ford made that change right after making the 4.6l's PI (Power Improved), same heads that are the 5fours are on your 4.6L.

Brewster, I think your slipping a little. Pretty sure all 99+ have COP, I know my 2000 4.6 has COP's.

Crap! I did a little slip, but only about as much as you, maybe just taste more lol.

Yea, he definitely has COP's. The 4.6L went to coils in 2000 (not 2002, off by 2 years, no biggy right) Some ended up with packs.

The 4six went PI after the upgrade to COP's , that was in 01.

Yea, my ear popped and it all came back to me, - go finger.

In fact, if you go to page #1 post 7, I knew what I was talking about back then.

I know, usually at the worst possible time. I get the feeling I'm being watched lol.

Only thing that happened in 99 is the 5four went PI. They also came with the first and last PI aluminum intake for the 10th gen. It only went for 1 year for the 5four. 2000 plus had the cracking composite intakes. They used those up to half through 03. Late 03 the 5four 2 valves had improved composite intakes and new heads w/8 plug chamber threads. Have a pick of the castings and numbers. They were cast in 2002.

BTW, - the dog was behind me, she wanted out. I was being watched alright, - big lab, will usually find all the creaks in the floor when she wants out, knows it annoys me. Nope, not this time, just sitting behind me, giving me the look.
