i did misread but i thought they all came with a limited slip rear? my friend has a 99 with an open but i thought they stopped putting them in after 2000.
Hahaha!

Noooo, they ran open diffs in most of the models right through this generation... My '01 XLT came from the factory open with 3.31:1

lol im not stupid i swear. i didnt know that. honestly that 99' was the first i heard that had an open diff. i had no clue they made a pickup with that. My first thought was why the hell would they put that in? it just sounded stupid. Since then i hadnt heard about any newer trucks with an open rearr.

That's why it's so expensive for the install... Every housing is a bit different... You'd think they'd all be machined the same but when you're measuring the the thousandth of an inch (.001") there's discrepancies...

Installs can take 4hrs or they can take up to 8hrs+... Sometimes you just go back and forth with em... So they charge big bucks accordingly

What's a good gear set and website to buy it from? I'm going to pay for install cause I've had 2 friends blow up their differentials. The most hp I'm planning on putting on the ground is 350hp and it's just for fun. An 8.8 should hold up fine to that shouldn't it? People swear by detroits. What do you think?

So to the OP...

Are you ready!? LOL

Seriously though, what's wrong with swapping in a junkyard FX4 housing with the 3.73 and limited slip? Even an Expy will have the 9.75 LS with 3.73... Same width, just hafta weld on perches

For the $$ it's waaay more cost effective, unless your heavy wheelin, draggin or braggin...

Personally, to me, an 8.8 is a mustang rear, not a truck rear... I wouldn't waste my time building it for a truck...
The 9.75 is comparable to the famous Dana 60 rear in almost all aspects...

Yukon gear is the best in my opinion
Ford racing gears
Motive gear
Etc, any good name...

Call Machinewave for a quote or go to jegs, summit, or randys ring and pinion...

Detroit lockers are the ol standby... Yes people swear by them... But there are plenty of other lockers that are great and will do just as good of a job... Do your research, your about to spend +/- $1,300.00 on an axle housing... and make sure you're building the right housing for your needs
