Changed fuel filter, problem still there and is getting worse. Taking much longer each time to crank, almost to the point of draining the battery (6 months old)....

At a loss for what it could be. I love my Ford, but damn these constant problems

Have your alternator checked, it could not be charging your battery enough to provide full voltage to fire right up. And as t was said since you have 100K on her now is a great time to change the plugs with MotorCraft Plugs Only!

Had my truck taken to Firestone 2 days ago, explained my problem to them, and dropped it off for a diagnostic test and full look over to try to discover the problem. They had a guy look at it, no codes, kept looking over it all, didn't figure out anything. They put their best shop mechanic on it to give it a shot, he couldn't figure it out either. They told me they are stumped, and all they can recommend is that I take it to a dealer (Fml) and have them try to diagnose it. I plan on doing that this week hopefully to figure this out.

The mechanic checked my fuel system head to toe, no problems, no leaks, fuel pump and fliter are good! (Pump 2 months old, filter 2 weeks old)

He mentioned that changing the plugs might help, but he said cause it's not misfiring or running rough when I'm driving that he doesn't believe this is causing my current problem.

I will continue to update as I learn more.

I'm thinking a bad Crank or Cam sensor Sig. The signal or charge is getting thru.. barley/weak. Chafed wires perhaps at the bends.

BOTH Crank and CAM sensor connectors have 90* plastic harness stiffeners/supports since the harness itself 90's immediately from the connectors. These may be broke or missing.

The reason I feel it's a harness fault/resistance issue; - A bad sensor here = no start. A weak signal = intermediate and that usually worsens with time.

I should say this, since it's more less the #1 problem for slow start, = a bad regulator. More so than worn Motorcraft spark plugs IMO. Reason I haven't mentioned it , it's fuel system related and that's one of the very first parts any mechanic would check. There's more, but I'm just mentioning the problems I've had experience with in these Fords , hard to find problems since you've had it looked at.

There's another section of the harness that can be missed to determine fault. Best way is to take a close look, and inspect for visible damage.
Look right above the AC acummulator at the harness loop just above. Inspect for damage. You have shielded ignition wires in that loop. If the shielding is damaged it can and has cause ignition havoc. You mentioned it's running fine, so I'd at least check the crank wires. I believe they are Dark Blue (solid) and Light Grey (solid/no stripe).

JBrew,

Do you have any pictures you can provide of where I need to look? It sounds like you might have discovered something that I never would have thought about, and I love that.

Thank you!

Old post, but updating on the problem.

Turns out my Crank Shaft Sensor was going back, as well as my PCU, both are being relplaced now, and if that doesn't solve the problem, Tech at the Ford Dealer (hate that i had to take it to the dealer, but they are doing a great job with the diagnosis and repair)
said that if CSS and PCM don't fix the problem, its something to do with my main CPU and that may be the Time of Death of my beloved truck. Prayers its not that major, but preparing for the worst, hoping for the best.

PCU , CPU doesn't really exist. Yea, these vehicles use a PCM. A pre programmed power control module, if you were to replace. I recently replaced mine. It was 150 bucks and included updates. There's modules, sensors and whatnots that can inhibit starting, like PATS, GEM, Crank and Cam, but there's only one chief, that's the PCM.
