2001 F150 5.4 engine replacement/rebuild HELP!
Good afternoon,
I have a 2001 ford F150 with the 7700 gvw 4x4 package. It has the 5.4 triton. I bought it off my company who said that it needs and engine. I took it home and did a compression test and found that #1 cvlinder has 70 psi compression. Is it worth rebuilding? Or should I replace it with a junk yard engine? Also what is the difference if any between a 5.4 in a 2001 f150 and a 5.4 in a 2001 f250/van? I could really use some help here guys!
Thanks,
Kevin

I'd say first figure out if the low compression is because of valves or piston/ring issues. Repeat your compression test with a few squirts of oil into the cylinder. If the compression is higher than dry, you have a piston/ring issue. If it is the same, you need to redo your heads.
As to the JY motor, it's always a gamble unless you can find a for sure low mile engine...
As for the rebuild, can you afford a crate motor? These is almost always your best option, though more expensive than a kit.
Remember that a rebuild costs more than just the price of parts. A good overhaul includes a tanking (clean the block) machining and tons of little things you don;t get in the kit (plugs, wires, bad sensors...)

They're not really notorious for heads no, but they can have issues just like anything else. The block and heads from the van will work fine with your intake, assuming they're not the same, they might be the same but I'm not 100% on that.
