leaky back window, followed how to from the net using window weld and still leaked I want to re-do this but I read that butyl tape works better than the black messy window weld, can anyone confirm this if so what size do I need and where can I get it?

Yes, the butyl ribbon is easier to work with and seals better.
I used the 3/8"x15' 3M Window-Weld on mine with no issues.
I got mine at Advance Auto, but any parts store or Amazon will have it.
Should be $15-20

After pulling out the window again check the window frame for cracks, especially around the slider if you have one. If it is cracked you need a new window.

If it isn't cracked, get a roll of butyl and clean up all the surfaces really well before applying.

When I pulled mine out I gouged the frame in a couple spots. I used plastic filler to fix. So far, no leaks.

Ive got the same problem and have been researching too. So this is a window problem and not the third brake light Ive read about? ugh.........

i used the window weld as well, placed a fat bead along the seam and let the window sit in the frame for a while before snugging it all the way down, had zero issues since and that was 3 years ago.

That is a different generation truck. Resealing the window is easy, no big deal.

do I just use the butyl ribbon tape by itself or do I need to use windo-weld primer?

I just used the butyl tape. I cleaned the window and cab mating surface with alcohol, let it dry, applied the butyl tape to the window and installed it. It does work better if it is warmer, you could bring the window and tape inside and get it all warm and set on the window and then go put it on. I put mine on, tightned the bolts pretty tight, then 2-3 days later tightened them all a little more.

Clean the old of and fix any rust that might be there. And start at the bottom center of the window and follow the lines in the frame.
