2001 4.6 V8 Pings and rattles under a load
126,000 miles starts and runs great, just pings under a load. Read and tried multi-suggestions from this forum. No one ever says what fixed their ping problem? Please if someone found the fix let me know how? This is a rampant problem on this forum.
THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE FIX FOR MY PING NOISE: FILLED WITH COOLANT.
.COOLANT FLUID WAS LOW CAUSING A PINGING SOUND LIKE LOW OCTANE FUEL GURGLING WHEN UNDER A LOAD,NOISE WAS LOUDEST NEAR THE HEATER CORE UNDER THE DASH. NOISE HAPPEN QUICKLY ONLY AFTER ENGINE WAS HOT.

X4. My 4.6 will "ping" only on the interstate over 65mph going up an incline. Using 93 octane helps but at 8.00 more per fill up so I just turn off overdrive and no problems. Not really on interstate much tho

Has anyone tried cleaning or changing the crank shaft sensor and cam shaft sensor?. If getting a bad signal from these sensors, the PCM could be giving a timing advance and thus the "Ping". The sensors are only about $25 each and not hard to replace. the crank sensor is hardest to get at but it is also the one that gets very dirty (it is behind the A/C compressor. To get at, take off the belt, remove the four bolts holding the A/C compressor and move it to the side. Then you are clear to take out the crank sensor and clean everything up so you get a good and accurate reading by the sensor.
