Im using the haynes manual #36059, the picture came from the timing cover removal. Could probly mend that crack. What do you think caused it?

I'm not sure what could have caused it. After taking off two hoses from the heater tube, some of the metal has rust, so maybe a bad weld rusted through..... not sure just yet. I bought it about 4 months ago and haven't had any problems and it hasn't leaked until just recently. I noticed a small drip a couple weeks ago and then it got a little worse. I thought it was the hose so I replaced it. The problem then became worse because before the hose was up flush against the metal heater tube. When I put the new hose on I left it about 1/4 inch away from the heater tube and it exposed the crack at the base of the "T" even more.

I will get more pictures in the morning. I have the air intake off, and two of the coolant hoses off. The lower hose under the intake is being a pain to get off so I'll finish in the morning.

The spring clamps are a pain, once off sclice hose with knife and insert screwdriver and gently pry off. Try not to just pull, its the old Chinese finger thing, the hose gets tighter as it is pulled.

Ok finally got it off. Its called a heater return tube. Price from dealer is 96$....

Here are the pictures of the tube and the hole. It wasn't cracked like I thought, it just developed a hole. Can I JB weld this thing instead of forking out 100$??

Take it to a welding shop and have them see if they can repair it. thats what i would do anyways.

You have the knowledge of the part, tools and experience to remove it, go for it with JB Weld. Leave it cure the time required and reinstall it. Its corroded thru and it will continue to corrode more. Save your money or look for a good one at Pick-a-part.

I am with Bill on this one. Clean the entire pipe, look for additional weak spots and JB Weld those areas too. Inspect that area that has the current pinhole, and I would JB around that entire weld.

Speaking of Stealerships, I think since the economy took a dump they are trying to SCREW everyone on parts. Before they would tell me we are competitive on prices and will match any price. Last week I went in for a U Joint and the counter guy told me $80.00 ( he had his head down while telling me this) I told him he was NUTS. He appologized and said I dont like to do this either, but this is the NEW WAY. I asked him if the U Joint was made of gold? I told him NO THANK YOU, and informed his Boss that they had lost me as a customer. Had been going there for years.

I would have that blazed up, gas station , muffler shop, maybe your buddy got a gas weling outfit.

It looks like it was poorly welded to begin with.

Good to see that part, good post!

I picked up the new one, but am going to try and JB weld the old one first. I'll try it tonight and go from there.

Sharptp, funny thing is when I picked up the part I told the guy I was expecting it to be plated in gold....he didn't find it amusing. I called 3 different ford dealerships and all quoted me different prices. 96$ was the cheapest, most expensive was quoted at 122$. The u pull it lots around me told me they didn't have my year/model truck.

Save yourself the time and effort if there is a pin hole I will tell you there are other spots on that tube that are just as thin... leak, today, tomarrow next week, it will leak and it won't be at the best possible time... bite the bullet, replace and forget it
good luck..
