Default 2000 5.4 Rough Starting

Hopefully this is in the right area. I have a 2000 F150 with 5.4 in it. Recently the truck has had a hard time starting , I have read the multiple other postings but im not sure which route to go. Here is the problem. I can get the truck to start on first crank about 50% of the time and other times it will crank like its not getting fuel pressure. If I crank the truck 3 or 4 times it will start and RPMS will climbing to like 3000 RPMS and the truck runs fine. Once the truck is running it doesnt act like it has any fuel delivery problems. The battery was checked and is good. It cranks like a non PATS key is in the ignition. Today it started once and then died and after letting it sit for about 5 minutes it started right up with high RPMS. I am wondering if the pump has more pressure at startup than when runniing. Due to the fact that the truck runs fine when started. Does the fuel pump relay only run on startup? Could that be a problem? Looking for suggestions.. Tahnks for any help

you should perform a fuel pressure test. at idle you should read between 30 adn 45 psi. Disconnect the vacuum hose from fuel pressure regulator and it should go up around 10 psi. If it does not, you have a bad fuel pressure regulator. If your pressure is low, you have either a blockage in the fuel line, fuel filter, or tank (at the screen to your fuel pump) or you fuel pump is a gonner. Since you can run your truck, try to run the fuel down to less than a couple of gallons of gas. It is easy to take out the fuel tank if the gas is low and replacing the fuel pump is not a bad job

Good luck
