1999 f150 water pump & coolant leak question?
1999 f150 with a 1998 4,2L engine. 120,000 miles.
At bout 112,000 miles I replaced the lower intake gasket with a felpro gasket.
Now it is leaking about a half quart per hundred mile into the oil pan.
Spark plugs look good.
I am trying to figure out wether the leak comes from the intake gasket or the timing gasket. Reading the Haynes manual I noticed that they said you should use sealant on the water pump bolts. So took the water pump off and noted that the lower long bolts on the lower left side, looking from the front of the engine had a lot of water in them and were coated with rust. The threads were also wet.
My question is:
Do some of bolts on the water pump also hold the timing cover in place and could water on the bolts be an indication that the coolant leak is in the timing gasket.
