Default 1999 F-150 Instrument Cluster

Wanting to change the instrument cluster in a 99 F-150 with one that has a tach. I changed it and then the truck would not start and the theft light came on. Reinstall the old unit and it runs fine. What do I need to do to reprogram the replacement unit so it will work.

To make this work the dealer will have to reprogram it.

Not sure of the fix but I read somewhere the information for the PATS Key is located in the cluster. Maybe this will give you a starting point for more research!

The Instrument Cluster, PCM, and Central Junction Box (fuse box) all work together with the PATS. In order to replace any one of the three you need to go to the dealership and have them programm the new part (cluster, pcm, cjb). They hook up with the computer there and either take the programming out of the old one and upload it in the new one, or they can put the new one back to "as-built" using special codes they have access to considered "as-buit data". Sorry man, but that's something only the dealership can do.

I picked up the cluster at a wrecker for $30.00 and I was told it would be about $100.00 to get the truck reprogramed.
