Default 1999 5.4L engine gone- HELP!!

Here's the deal,I bought the truck used 5 months ago with 184K now it has 203K.I see that the 5.4s have lots of problems with plugs blowing,I put new plugs when i bought the truck, changed all the fluids, put new filters.
Now the other day i was on my way home from work and the engine started to hesitate and the truck was sounding a bit like a diesel.I pulled over called my mechanic and he said to try to make it to his shop.I turned the truck back on, and there was a knocking sound for a minute then the engine shut down. Now i'm told it needs to be rebuilt for $3500.00.I can't figure it out on my own and Thats why i cryin out for some solid advice. The sad thing is that my wife works for fords head office but can't help because i bought it used and not from a ford dealer. No warranty was offered to me because of the trucks age and relatively high kms.

I was lucky, my plugs were all able to be torqued back down. But I did a lot of research and this is what I came up with. If you are a do it yourselfer you can buy a kit from timesert.com to repair the damaged thread right on the engine. If you don't have any macanical backround you can contact Phil at
pgsparkplugrepair.com He will come to your place and do the repair for you for around $700. He also rents the kit out. It is the same kit that I listed above. You can buy it for about the same price that he rents it for. Even though I did not use his service, he was very helpful and was glad to answer any questions I had. You might want to drop him a line and see what he has to say. What ever you do, I hope you find a cheaper alternative. I just about fell over when I was told it would cost over three grand. GOOD LUCK!!!

Default where is Phil located?

One small issue might be that I live in the Toronto area,Canada.I appreciate your help though, any replies are better than none,Ya so that is 3500.00$$
Canadian.A guy I know here has a speed shop and works on high compression engines all the time,so I figured I would go with him as opposed to my regular mechanic who doesn't really do to many rebuilds.

Thanks

Your beter off getting a reman or buying an engine off eBay.. There's only one builder I know that can succesfully rebuild a modular motor like these. Trust me , you don't want to get it rebuilt - to many probs ..

Jasper is the best place for a reman -

Personally , I would go to carpart.com and search for a used motor in my area if I were you - you'll save a 2 at least grand ..

I myself am not a Jasper fan. I work in the "industry" and I see a lot of warranty issues with Jasper engines/transmissions. That is only my opinion. I do agree to buy a reman assy. It will be the best warranty you can have, and the least problems getting the warranty repairs paid for. And the reduced labor time doing a swing over a rebuild will make up a lot of difference in price. I would even price this through a Ford dealer. They often sell the engines new or reman at barely over their cost. They are more competitive than they used to be.

Now that you mention it , I know quite a few F150 guys and girls lol , anyway, I've been in it since about 89 and recall a particular issue with Jasper with were a guy went threw a few motors from Jasper - warranty claims and he had to fight for each claim. It was a hassle. However , I know of people that have had good luck with them as well, but that was with there transmissions only..

Working with people over the years along with witnessing outcomes , It seams everyones has had the best luck and it's just allot cheaper to find a used motor from salvage. I've had good luck using that carpart.com site - it's just a locater that finds salvage units in your area , good resource. A low milage 5.4L you might spend 800 -1500 bucks . I haven't heard of anyone getting a bad one this way and salvage yards give you a warranty as well - if it doesn't run you can take it back , but that's as far as they go with it..

I would go witha used unit.
Find a Motor in the area and swap it out - 2 1/2 hour job..
