Default 1998 f150 - what is an IAT code?

I went to Advanced Auto and they plugged in their gadget to read why my check engine light was on. It read: IAT Code. What is that and if you know, how do i fix/clean it?

Guessing it means Intake Air Temperature - suggesting there's a sensor somewhere in the intake stream. Likely necessary as part of the total airflow calculation used to inject the proper amount of fuel.

As far as how to test or where it is specifically located - perhaps some other members can help out here.

I know my AIT or ACT sensor is on the driver side of the intake manifold next to the fuel rail, but mine is a 92, I have also heard of them being in or by the air box.

This is a diagram of where its at on a 97-98. Its on the intake snorkel midway.

If you replace the sensor and the light returns you may have to get the PCM reflashed. I had that experience before on a 98.
