Default Truck's Gas Mileage

I am going today to buy a 1999 Ford F-150 4x4 Extended Cab With a 5.4 Auto. It currently has a dual exhaust and other than that it is stock. What kind of fuel mileage can I expect on country roads?

Also, what can I do to help increase the mileage most? What mods equal how much gain? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

well i dont know how much help it will be but my 97 SCab 4x4 with the 4.6 with an exhaust gutted rear cats and K&N drop in filter was getting 12.5 at first.... effin terrible right? well then i did the gotts mod and i pulled like 14.2ish. this is varied driving i drive easy as i can but one way of my commute is downhill with a back wind and the other is all very very uphill and with 60+ mph head wind. with ac full blast of course.. if i keep the RPM's below 2000 while cruising it makes a huge difference.. just hard to do on my drive.

as long as the added horsepower doesnt make ur foot any heavier a cold air intake and a performance chip to go with that exhaust could improve gas mileage. also i would use sea foam in ur oil and gas tank but make sur to replace the oil and oil filter and also the fuel filter
