1997 f150 loss of power
Hi, am new here but was wondering if I could find a bit of help here. Just got a 1997 F150 with a 4.6l engine. It runs great and seems to have plenty of power until I want to go uphill or am going faster (100 KPH+) and floor it, the engine rpms go up but the power is not transferred to the wheels.
I had Cruise on and when it needed to downshift for power, the RPMS went up but the truck slowed. I get no error codes on my sensor, oil and trans fluid is all good. and it has great pickup in 1st and 2nd gear. Not losing oil and cant find a vacuum leak. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Agree with jstockert An older truck will loose power as the piston rings wear and the compression decreases. As long as the compression is nearly the same in all cylinders and not below the minimum, it will run great but you just won't have the power of a new truck. That said, keeping up with maintenance like filters, plugs, fuel system, PCV valve, and cleaning your MAF sensor will make sure you are not loosing the power available in your engine.
