Help!!! My instrument cluster went crazy, so I put my original GEM back in and its still doing the same thing. Could this be a bad cluster? I know that I have half a tank of gas, and my alternator is charging fine at 13.88 volts and my battery doesn't drain, and my engine was cold cause I hadn't started it in a couple of hours.

Great news!! I put in a different cluster and it works like a dream. The major problem I believe was the oil pressure pegged out and the battery gauge didn't move. Put in a different cluster, and voilagh. I need to figure out how to adjust the mileage to match my old cluster though, it's going to bug me and plus I would like it to match in case I ever decide to sell it.

Up next on the project list is to get the window fixed, headliner, possibly carpet, and pinstripe. Any other ideas, I'd love to hear em!!!

Thoughts? I think that I am going to do my headliner this way, I really like the white camo.

Told you I'd order the wrong mounts haha. I ordered the set that bolts into your door jambs oh my lord that didn't turn out nearly as good as I was hoping... It's up, but I believe it whistles really bad, can't take it down the highway yet because I'm license less but the brackets whistle where they come into the door jambs.. Oh well it looks alright.

Got a window sticker which I really like, and also did a little dress up in the engine bay.

I tow almost everyday and found I do just fine with factory mirrors and now it fits in my garage with our other vehicles and I don't have to fold the dang mirrors in.

Personally I like my tow mirrors. Mine fit into the garage without folding them in. Hey, everybody has their own opinion. Nice truck BTW

This is coming along Great....and you're running into all of the gremlins that 97-98s have. The cluster has that crap film connections that go intermittent. If you keep the original, take some small pieces of cardboard and wedge them under the film contacts. The 3 plugs will make better contact, and that fixed my gauge problems....all on the left side of the cluster. Finding the right GEM module used is a crapshoot and Ford discontinued manufacturing them. $&@#%!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, that looks like a '47 DeSoto with a flathead 6 and fluid drive. My father drove one.

Agreed, Just see all the stupid kids with tow mirrors flipped out and stacks in the bed of a diesel truck. Its becoming as bad as kids running ricers with fart pipes.

Don't know what the infatuation is to driving around with tow mirrors flipped out and not towing anything. I like cleaner lines myself. If I had them. they would be folded in until they wee absolutely needed.

Thanks! I still do have the original cluster, may give that a shot. I found a working GEM from the junkyard for free as well!! The DeSoto was a flathead 6! Sold it for 450 bucks.

Well.. I am 16... BUT I don't like when people have them extended, either. I just want mine for towing, when I do tow, and they are really handy for blind spot elimination. Plus, my old mirrors were all cracked and worn out, figured I may as well go with these.
