Default 1997 Ext. Cab 6.5 to 8 ft bed swap?

Is it possible to put an 8 foot bed on a 1997 extended cab 4x4 that came with a factory 6.5 bed?

Not without a new frame or extending the factory one.

Longer frame, and a longer drive shaft.
You'd have to weld on new metal to make the frame longer, and then move the axle back so it fits in the wheel wells of the new bed. Thus the need for the longer drive shaft.

Possible? Yes. Worth the time and money? Probably not. It's been done before (well kinda). I have seen a 10th gen screw stretched to a 6 1/2 foot bed. But that wasn't a factory option so it had to be custom made. I your case the 8 foot bed is a factory option and it would alot easier and probably safer just to buy a new truck

Yeah if I were going to do this id take measurements and go find another truck and cut the frame where the cab and bed meet and then cut a piece of the frame off the parts truck the correct width you need them attach the part of the your original truck with the springs and axels and then reinforce where the welds were and then have the driveshaft custom made and then you gotta make sure the bed mounting points are correct. Way too much work in my opinion.

Lwb trucks are cheaper, just go get you one of those...
If not, throw a single cab on there and add you a LWB bed.

Sounds like a lot of work though

If you really need the extra length, I would get one of the flip gates the screws came with. They let you open the tailgate yet stop things from flying out.

Bed extender is the word you're looking for.

It's too wide for a bed extender. I think I've seen a 11th gen bed extender fit in a styleside 10th gen bed. If it was a flareside yes a Supercrew one would fit.
