Default 12.50 tires

Guy has a set of 315- 12.50- r17 on craigslist for a good price would stock rims fit the 12.50 wide tire? Or would I need wider rims?

I would say no. since rims are about 7.5, I wouldn't trust that.

Honestly you can put any width tire on any width rim, within reason obviously. In your case it would work.

You shouldn't have any problems fitting them, lots do. Make sure you can find a shop that will mount them. Mine wouldn't mount a 33x12.5 on my stock fx4 wheels
