Default 03KR4X4 Build Thread

I'm going to keep all upgrades, changes, problems, fixes, etc here and I'll try to supply as many photos as possible for the next 1997-2003 owner that may need the help.

Good idea. What plans do you have? Mid travel? Dixon brothers? Sorry for the questions but I'm interested lol

The wife and I have discussed this for about the last 2 months... I couldn't make up my mind if this truck would be a stepping stone for the next few years till I got in a better place financially to buy a brand new one.. or a replacement one next gen up ( as that is my favorite body style) but after discussing it and thinking about it and even going as far as calling around to get quotes on replacement motors/transmissions, fixing the 4wd if it goes out on the current truck, vs a newer gen truck I have made up my mind this truck will be with my family until I die, unless *knock on wood* I get in a wreck and it totals out.

So now with the little back story out of the way I plan to go with a blacked out theme since the paint is a dark blue with beige accent. I haven't fully decided if I'll just plasti-dip on the chrome I have on the truck or not, but since that's a easily reversible route it may be what I start playing with later. Anyways...

First thing on the agenda will either be new headlights/tailslights/3rd brake light all the way around and a new sound system (nothing crazy I just like to enjoy my driving experience.) So that is where I am going to start

I like that it keeps things consolidated and easy to view

As far as sound goes the sky is the limit but I went with a pioneer 2800bs head unit, Rockford components up front, Rockford 5x7s in the rear, and a shallow mount RF 10" in a sealed RF box powered by an RF250 mono amp.

I think I have less than $600 total in it and it has more than enough clean sound to keep me happy. I'm kind of a Rockford fan. Lol

I'm not biased to any particular sound myself. I listen to mostly country and some older rock so that's what I am gearing toward.

I'm mostly rock, of any decade, and this doesn't give you an overly present bass guitar but keeps the bass drum punchy. The sub gain on my head unit runs from -10 to +10 and I generally keep it on -5.

Okay so I want to start with lights... but even before that I need to get new coils and plugs. Of course I'm going with MC Plugs, but coils I don't really want to pay $40+- per coil... I've been looking at some on E-bay is there any I should def stay away from?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/FORD-4-6L-5-...FUwWeb&vxp=mtr

I'm currently looking at these coils unless there some someone else would recommend.

Thanks.

I will go ahead and tell you man, you get what you pay for with coils. Let me look and see what I can find.

I'd appreciate that. It's just I don't think I can afford at he moment to pay $300-400 for coils and I know plugs will be about $30 for the 8. If I must wait so I can get a better quality I will. But I am making a trip next tuesday 500 miles one way for a week vacation. Then back.. so I'd be putting prob about 1300-1500 miles total in the next 14 days on the truck. I'd like to have new coils and plugs before then.
