Default 02 A-Pillar trim removal troubles, any advice

Just bought an 02 F150 Extended Cab and I am trying to remove the driver side a-pillar to run an alarm antenna up top, but I can't get the trim off!! It is equipped with the 'assist handle'. I pop the caps off that expose the (what appear to be) 10mm nuts holding the handle to the pillar, but I just can't seem to fit any of my millions of #10 sockets in there!! I've tried every other socket, metric and american, under the sun..nothing works. Anyone ever had the bolt turn with the nut, on both bolts??

I used a socket on mine. I know this is a few days old but im sure you will find it. Actually I used a nut driver. Probably a 10mm
