'02 F-150: Mysterious Whining Noise
Hey Everyone,
I just bought a used 2002 F-150 XL, 5-speed manual transmission, 74K miles.
There's a mysterious squealing noise coming from the engine. It only seems to start up after I've had the engine on for a little bit, and it becomes intermittent while I shift and accelerate.
This noise can still be heard right after I shut the engine off, as it takes a second or two after power-down to die out.
It's kind of a medium-picthed, wobbling sound.
Anyone know what this may be? I'm semi-to-comletely ignorant when it comes to engine problems, so any tips and words of advice will help.
Thanks!!!!

If you havent replaced your belts i would do so and it should take care of any squealing that you have. But, dont spray WD-40 on the belts b/c that defeats the purpose of the belts, not slipping.

Belt dressing is bad, very bad. The squeal will come back if that's all you do to try to fix it. It doesn't fix the real problem and makes a mess of everything and you end up doing more work to clean it off afterwords.

I had the same thing
About a month ago my truck was whining when I started it up,first it would stop after a while then it stayed on constant.I found out it was the bearings in the altenator. My mechanic put a new altenator, and the noise is gone.
