I'm wanting to get an f150 but I'm having trouble finding any of the 4.6L that have reasonable miles and price. I've heard nothing good about the gas mileage the 5.4 tritons get, so here is my question. Is there any tuner/performance chip that makes any significant difference (4ish mpg) in the gas mileage?

In my experience if you're buying a truck for mpg you shouldn't be buying a truck. With that said I think the best any tuner can boast is like a 2, maybe 3, mpg performance increase. I know with my flash pack that came with my truck the economy was cool but because it cut engine power I had to push the peddle more to get the needed power and ended up making my mpg drop.

best thing to do is google top rated tuners and go from there.

Hmmm. I have an 08 Screw w/ 5.4 and 3.73 rear. Stock it would get 20 hwy and 16-17 overall. Realize this is a couple months old, but hope the info helps.

it'll take a while for a $400 tuner to make enough of a mileage difference to pay for itself

Agree. I have a Livewire TS with custom tunes from MPT and the 87 octane mileage tune is slightly better than stock for both mileage and performance. My everyday tune is 89 performance because it's both fun to drive and gets fair mileage

17.5 at 75 mph Open Hwy
19.4 at 63 mph in the 55 zones. Everything around here close to the beach is 55 mph

Adv 15 in my daily driving but I start out slow and never in a hurry.

Your buying a full size gas truck.
If you want millage get a diesel 2500 and up.
Dodge I have , has over 1000 pounds of torque getting 21.... Use to get 23 stock.

The new smaller diesel trucks from what I have heard are in the 25 to 26 range. Thats the way to go if your concerned on millage.

How much torque and HP did all that aftermarket programmer and tuning get you? Have a dodge 3500 I went all out on but never messed with a stock gas motor with just a programmer and tuner.
