I spent 6 years in pullman, and never would have selected Spokane when I was down there. But after looking at where to settle down we wanted quite a bit: good educational opportunities, multiple job opportunities should a job suck, short commute, adult and child sport clubs, easy access to snowboarding, golfing, camping, fishing, and hunting. And in the PNW. Spokane really is the one of the few places that has that combination, and was a 6 hour drive from the wife's house. We're very happy we are here, and not in Moscow/Pullman/Colfax/etc.

Well let me give you all a little back ground of my town, we are on an island, 70 miles of road system, we have a pool, movie theater, Rec center, gyms, and a Walmart. Other than that we have world class salmon fishing (world capital), hunting and boats. That's it... Since I hate fishing that leaves a lot of free time. I know obviously compared to cities Pullman area is going to be dull at best. I'm more interested in cost of living, feeling of community and if there are young kids there.. How's the schools ect. Thanks

I'm from juneau originally, so I have some concept of what you're talking about. I should have said "Pullman Area", I spent most of my time in Moscow. Which was awesome during the summer: not a lot a people, good weather, some things to do, could get to spokane or Lewiston easily, etc. But when the students were in, it felt full. Compared to what you're looking at locally: it's got great education for k-12, low cost of living, 4 seasons, access to Spokane/Moscow/Lewiston, etc. The bad is that it's a town of 30 thousand and student body of 19 thousand, so accounting for overlap in those numbers, you're looking at as many people between the ages of 18-24 as the rest of the town population.
You might love it though, people that live there do. And for a stint at school, it will be great: very student oriented town.
And, for the love of god, don't speed the Colfax. Ever.

It has been pretty hot up here this summer, wouldn't be so bad if we were prepared for it but only Safeway and Walmart have AC so I go through a lot more gas to stay cool haha. 88 here today according to my truck while driving..that's too hot for us.
