Many states list anything over 1/4 ton as a commercial. It goes way back to a time when they were.

ahhh, I remember those days...and I don't miss 'em. I ended school and got on work 2 years ago...don't think I can go back again.

so my guess is - tell me when your vacation time from school is, we can go then

and where's the closest place?

You would be surprise where you could get your truck. I agree with Warlockk, the only time 4wd is really needed is if you are in heavy snow, sand, mud. My old 2wd truck went through deep sand and mud just fine, but I just couldn't stop in it without getting stuck.

The headers leak a little at the joint so I'm going to change the connector. Of course this is on a 90 5.0 so I'm not sure how relevant it is to you.
I also have a tow strap. Its a 30ft tow strap rated at 30,000 pounds. I also have a hilift jack that can be used as a winch with my tow strap. It will work the same as a winch but just a lot slower since you have to manually crank it. Its not a cool electric winch but it will get the job done. Should be able pull anyone out that gets stuck. An electric winch would be nice to have though.

ha, I'm just jaded...

back on the east coast, had a 2wd long bed '91 ranger - I was better getting through snow and loose sand with a corolla than that POS

I tried to drive through a puddle and got stuck...

we tried placing 2x4's under the wheel, we put a 280lb guy in the bed (and he jumped up and down on it) to get traction, and she still wouldn't come out...

we had to get a 4x4 F-150 to pull her out

my next truck was 4wd, and I couldn't get it stuck if I wanted to...

Definitely no beating a 4x4, but there is quite a bit of difference between a ranger and an F150 especially with limited slip or locking rear and a nice set of tires. I go up to big bear mostly. There is also the off road area at Gorman. Or in San diego.

Why would we want something smaller and less powerful? A truck could drag that thing up behind it. Not to mention pull it free when its stuck. I don't think that little guy is going to move even a stock f150 or Bronco if it was stuck.
