Hey guys, some of yall might have read it over in the 97-03 section, but my truck got totaled yesterday. Some lady pulled out in front of my sister yesterday and my sister broadsided her, bending the frame of my truck. The lady had no DL, however the car did have insurance. The police report put the lady that pulled out in front of my sister at fault. I'm 95 percent sure the insurance company is going to total the truck because of the bent frame, but would it be worth getting a lawyer? I want to keep the truck because i know it can be fixed, but im worried they will not give me a fair amount regardless of who keeps the truck. Btw, the truck is still in my dads name. What do you guys think about getting one, and those of you that have, what has your experience been?

Well i had actually planned on buying a parts truck and taking the frame off of that one to use as the new frame for this one....

Also, how hard is it to get a salvage title? How does that whole process work? Anyone know?

 

Yes definitley get a lawyer. I was in 2 car accidents in the past 7 months. The other drivers were %100 at fault for both of them. I have a lawyer. It helps a lot, they pretty much take care of everything for you.

 

Well my parents are saying that because nobody was injured, it pretty much turns into a civil case, and looking at it that way, i dont have much in the way of a case... (dads words) i just dont want to get one and then walk away with nothing or even worse, in the hole.

 

See what you can do without a lawyer, only get one involved if you have to. Lawyers usually only like to take cases where there was personal injury (easy money for them). If you are just going for physical damage to the truck then someone will have to pay the lawyer and it will probably be you as its going to hard to get that cost out of the other people/insurance. Best thing you can do is start documenting everything, look at several sites that show what your specific model is selling for and have that as proof of value. The insurance company will try to get out cheap but if you hold their feet to the fire they will pay up as long as you aren't trying to get more than its really worth.

Lol .. Not at you!! I son 2 years ago was the driver at fault in my 03 screw, he total out a civic and the second car was 2010 BMW 535, civic had no insurance but my insurance ompanied settle with him. The BMW people settle then sued the insurance company for I think the term is called dimished value , the $$ lost in value if you were going to sell it since this will show up on a carfax . You can get some money out of this , but it will take up some time... As my insurance company said that is why you pay us!!!
