Yes it's the 5.0, I loved the wife's EB but thought I'd try the coyote as I love my v8's.

I'll look for a mileage app, install it and track the next few tanks. Ford said it should get better and to track the next few tank fulls.

Yeah, you can never really trust the average mpg on any vehicle, that's why they want to know how many k's it's eating per liters. Should be interesting to see what Ford will do if this keeps up.

The gas needle broke from full at 33k's after the last fill up. It took 60k's the tank before.

Breaking in..... I was told by a ford tech it needs to be broken in, and another ford tech that the engines are broken in from factory on a machine. Any takes?

Wondering if this keeps up, maybe a tune would be in order? or would that void warranty.

will post what I'm getting as I go.

Thanks for the help guys!

at this point in time I'd say it's too late unless you can find someone who will eat the loss on a trade in. (Which will likely be more then the MPG difference). From what I've read, there is not a lot of true difference in MPG so enjoy your V8. However, still track your mpg as it is an indicator that the truck needs attention. I got my Eco for 2 reasons. Price (demo with low Km) and wanted the extra towing capacity. It certainly didn't live up to the hype of 9.6L/100k in the highway. At the end of the day it's a great working TRUCK and it will otherwise perform a stated. (Power and more power).

Update, the coyote did 222 kms out of 52 liters.
Seems like the mileage just got even worse. So this rememberance day, I took a trip out to squamish and back with the wife n kid. Lotsa freeway , lotsa uphill down , mountain driving.

It's less than half a tank and has barely 240k on it. I'll know the exact numbers when I top her off, doubt it's gonna be good.

A buddy recently bought an fx4, exact drivetrain and averages 730k per tank.

Couple more fills and I'll be dropping her off at ford for a diagnosis . Will post what they find.

Ok, so here's the latest, did as much freeway as I could, I live in Vancouver, did a trip out to squamish as you know, went to white rock and back and finally over the peace arch border where I filled her up. 3/4's of this tank was freeway.

28.58 gallons (114 liters) got me 560k. It really sat around empty for a long time. Even then, reading 5k's to empty, there's still over 20 liters sitting in her reserve. I told the dealership where I had bought the truck about this and they want me to bring it in.

I babied the truck for those last 560k's. No extra weight, no load, drove her nice and mild in the city and put as much freeway into it as I could. No punching, no passing, total granny driving which really pissed me off adding to the lack of mileage. Gonna do the same for this last tank, and then send her to the dealership to see if it's normal or not.

There's a long story behind this which I'll skip. This is actually my second truck in less than 2 weeks from purchase.

This is kinda why I am watching the mileage like a hawk. The first truck I had purchased was identical to the one I own now in every way.

Driving it home from the dealership, to my house in van and even to work and back in burnaby for 2 days , the needle finally broke from full. I had to return the vehicle shortly after due to a defect.

I drive the second one which I currently own and in less than half way home from the dealership, the needle breaks from full and is down to 3/4 by the time I get home.

That's what makes me think something is wrong / different with the one I currently own

the "DTE" function on my truck has never worked. I Stopped bringing it up at the dealership as they haven't found the problem and I'm wasting time and gas. I use the fuel used as a gauge of when I need to fill up. It's usually within 2 litres of what I put back in at fill up. I have lots of data to know that my truck avg is 6.76km /L. I also use this as a guide when I reach 120 litres burned. I know I have approx 16x6.76 (108km) til empty. I'm getting over 800 km / fill.

Bill_The_PA,

God I wish I had your truck. Wish I had my wife's.

It's actually pretty stressful realizing the amount I've spent on a brand new vehicle and extended warranty only to return it due to a huge F up in the truck's manufacturing, and then get one that's identical that gives garbage mileage. I've had all kinds of vehicles all my life and finally save up for a new one and get one that just drains me for fuel. I'm going way way out of my way to get that kind of mileage.

If I drove my 5.0 the way I drove my wife's Eco, it would be alot worse. Yet people that I've read about and people that I personaly know get more.

The last straw is going to be this weekend. I'm driving out to seattle. All freeway, 2.5 hours one way. It's getting filled up, driven to the USA and back and I had better see an improvement after 100% freeway. After that, if it gives me the same mileage, Shows over. I'll give it to the dealership to diagnose.

That nice little sign on the windshield, made with pride at the dearborn plant, made me feel good when I bought that truck. I'm wondering if that actually means anything anymore.

If you can safely do so, shoot a video of the vehicle while in different driving conditions. Send it to your dealership it might help.

I've got a Super Cab with a 3.7 litre. Before I put my snows on, I was getting 800 km per tank. The X-Ice tires are quiet and easier on gas than the Coopers I used on previous trucks. I've lost 50 - 75 km maybe. My driving is about 75% highway. I live rurally.
