Now the service department, they could use some customer service. But the buying side was good for me. My buddy got a smoking deal on his 13' there, Sherwood Ford and City Ford wouldn't match it. Not to mention the 25 harassing email he got from the City salesman. He had to report him to the manager...

Grenaded my FX4's rear diff today. 20753 km and she is dead. Either broke the drivers axle shaft or blew the E locker apart. Only ordered heads, cams and headers.... guess better axles and a Detroit locker can be on that list too !

The worst is i have to be about 500 kms from home... little wheel spin. .. big bang and it's all over lol. I can laugh about it. .. i dont even really care. Wanted the E locker gone anyway. Have to cancel my last ditch effort for warranty on my a/c appointment though... and no... Ford isn't touching a thing on this truck relating to the differential. I mean this truck has not been abused in anyway enough to do this... but with that said... I don't want the stock junk back either... especially the E locker.

I wouldn't mind getting rid of the locker on mine and going with an Eaton limited slip. Better immediate traction in the winter. Kinda bummed that there's no more mechanical limited slip available on the 15+ trucks.

I used to like limited slips, particularly the clutch pack Eaton until I got my first Detroit. Now I will never go back. They aren't harsh... they don't do anything weird... are as predictable as all get out and will get you moving every time with one tire on the most frictionless surface you can think of.... or right off the ground. My FX4 is stock.... down to Pirellis on the 20's and never will deviate that way... but locker it shall be.

I also need traction bars as this silly 157" wheelbase wheel hops in a way I have never experienced. That's what killed the diff... wheel hop. This time it wasn't hopping but the damage was likely already done.

Once I get it home I want to see what falls out the rear cover lol. I'm sure it will be great. It just makes metal on metal lovely sounds when you kick in gear in 2wd and will not move. I'm hoping thr ring and pinion are salvageable but won't get my hopes too high.

Will an aftermarket Detroit work with the factory 4x4 switch, meaning if you pull the switch out it will lock the diff?

Not what I am installing no. Mine is just a mechanical limited slip really. It still unlocks as it uses spring load tension to hold the gears in mesh with the center hub. When you want to turn the wheel speed will overcome the spring tension provided you are not under power. A good snap of the throttle and it locks solid. But it won't turn like these trucks do stock with the diff locked... that's just an Internet myth from those with no experience.

Eaton makes an e locker that is much like the stock one we have. It's open until you electrically engage it. Auburn makes one that acts as a limited slip until you lock it... but it's not a true locker and has some pretty bad reviews.

I do like the Eaton clutch unit.... it's robust, adjustable and you can rebuild it without ripping the whole diff apart when you kill the clutches.

Once you crank up the power the wheel hop seems to disappear. Lol

No you actually need power to turn over the rear tires.... something you know nothing about....
