Search there are a lot of topics on this, some useful some not.

In short I'll summarize it for you:
-if you plan on keeping your truck past 200k the 5.0 might pay itself of if the eco has problems with its turbos, same goes for the resale value, if the turbo's go no one will pay much for the truck
-the 5.0 won't necessarily eat more fuel then the eco if you drive it properly

If you are asking is the 5.0 better then the eco I say no. I say get the ecoboost even ford plans to drop the v8 in the f150 eventually, its just a better engine. It has more power it should last way past 300k.

The only people disliking the 5.0 are the ones that dislike new tech like the turbo's and are stubborn as hell and not wanting to loose the v8 sound which from experience in my 5.4 doesn't even sound good and you can barley hear it anyways. Sticking a loud muffler on it just makes it obnoxious and noisy which is something I DON'T want from my truck. Not to mention I actually give a **** about the people around me and don't want to ride the streets with a noisy exhaust irritating others.

Depends what you want from a truck. Is it for work, or for fun. Both engines are reliable and are quality products.

I went with the 5.0 for the cost savings, the eco was 1200-1509 extra and I'm not towing anything more than 4000 lbs.

Most info that I found is that fuel mileage is very close. Unless you really baby the eco.

I to like quite vehicle and am not big on loud exhausts, which probably would have swayed my decision if the price was the same. Although the 5's exhaust is kind of exciting HAHAHA!

I'm @1900 kms and I'm getting 14/100 city driving and 12.1 /100 on the hwy @120

That's pretty good for a V8.

If you are towing the 5.0 needs to rev in order to keep the power; runs in the high 3800-4100; kills the gas mileage
Only one mpg difference from the 3.5 eco.
very fast truck
been around; proven track record.

I love my 5.0, I am a contractor and I pull a 10' loaded enclosed cargo trailer with ladders and in tow haul mode I run around 2000 on @hwy speeds. 22-23 l/100k running 35's with crew cab 6.5 box, and some mods.

I have 125k on my 2012 5.0 and love the engine....good fuel mileage and plenty of power. Take the time to chat with a few Ford mechanics and I am quite sure you will end up taking the 5.0 over the 3.5 for reliability reasons alone.

I will stick with the 5L. If you have ever seen what is left of the motor when a turbo comes apart!

Well I say it all comes down to likes dislikes needs and wants not nessesarly pros and cons. I bought my Truck not because it was a Lariat. I ended up with a lariat because of needs and then price. I needed a full 4 door cab. I needed heated cooled seats with lots of seat adjustment ability. I needed the ability to two a 5th wheel / TT. If the price was right I wanted 4 wheel drive and finally at the end of the day I, like you wanted a great price.

I wanted to buy my truck from the same dealer as I get great sales and service there (4 vech bought) At the time the only way I was going to get all my needs was to buy a Demo. I was able to negotiate an extended warranty, a service plan and the price I could except. Looking back there are no regrets.
5.0, 3.5, 3.7, or the 6.2. They all have their issues. There is no perfect truck so I say base it on needs first then wants and likes last and I'm sure you will be satisfied at the end of the day.
I think the 5.0 is just as new as the 3.5 Eco so only time will tell. Remember this is a new 5.0 not the 5.0 from 20 years ago.

Best of luck.
