Unless I'm doing something wrong, which could very well be, tirerack says they are not rated for snow.

Per tire rack, you are correct. But tirerack also states the 275/65-18 are also not rates for snow, which are the stock tire size. It makes no mention of the severe snow rating on the BFG site.

Now both discount and tirerrack have the Duratrac listed with the severe snow rating, but can't find it listed on the Goodyear site.

I have submitted a question to BFG regarding this. If this size BFG doesn't have the rating, then it's practically a sure thing then I'd go with the Duratrac.

the BFG's are snow rated, i remember seeing the snowflake on the sidewall of the AT's i had. on that note they were unstoppable in the snow on my ranger. i personally will never purchase a set of goodyears ever again, ive had terrible luck with every set ive owned. they all wore terribly, were loud and sucked *** in the rain and snow. i would stick with the BFG's between the two, just my opinion though.

What size were the BFG's though? It all depends on the size of the BFG's. Some sizes have this rating while some sizes do not. Just want to clarify. Thanks!

i wasnt aware of that. why would that make a difference? width maybe? they were 33x10.5.

EDIT: the 265 75 R16's i had on my 93 where snow rated also.

Good question on why would one size matter and the other size not.I would like to know the answer as well.

I had the Bfg's the op speaks of in 285/70R17 and i wasn't to impressed with them in the snow. While they got me thru the light snow to moderate, didn't handle to well in the heavy snow. Now this was just my experience with them.

I too am unsure why certain sizes are rated and other aren't. You'd think all sizes would be built to the same spec.

I had the 285/70-17 on my '02 F150 and they were snow rated too! But the weird thing, is on tirerack, they have two models listed for this 285/70-17 size. One has this rating the other doesn't. The one with the rating is also $5 more per tire. Whatever that means.

Now looking at discount for the stock size (275/65-18), it does not have the severe strorm emblem. All other 18" sizes they list for the T/A KO have the emblem. Now I'm even more confused. Guess I'll wait for word back from BFG.

BFG 275/65-R18

Default goodyears all the way

I have a 05 4x4 and I have ran 3 types of tires. Stock, BFG AT's and the duratracs. The Bfgs were in a 315/70/17 and i am working on a black angus cattle farm up here in michigan. I had alot of trouble getting to the back of the fields with supplys or even to retreive trailers. I switched to the goodyears in a 315/70/17 and its like a whole new truck. The ride seems to be better, they clear tread fast, I havent spun them in the winter like the BFGS did and barely any noise. I would go with the goodyears. They are a softer tire but they are rated pretty close in mileage to the bfgs and were actually less when i purchased my set.

Well, looks like I'm going the BFG 275/70-18 route. They had both the Goodyear and BFG's at Sams Club at low prices, so I asked Discount Tire to match. They did and even more so.

I got the BFG's, all services (enviro fee, disposal fee, install & lifetime balance), all taxes and their repair, refund or replace certificate for $1017 out the door. A savings of $213 off their normal price, plus there is a $60 mail in rebate ($273 total savings). So before rebate, it's roughly $254 per tire, after rebate it's about $239. Which these tires normally run $235 for the tire alone at Discount. Which that is cheaper than I paid for my BFG AT T/A KO's back in 2006 on my 2002 F150.

He couldn't get under $1250 dollars on the Goodyears though and Goodyear only offers a $20 rebate.

Got an appt. at 5pm tonight to get them installed (with the wifes okay). Will try to get pics tonight, if the truck is clean enough and post up tomorrow. Of course these won't be any wider than the stock BFG Rugged Trails (275/65-18), but are about an inch taller (32.1" to 33.2") and a little more aggressive.
