If I may chime in...I have an 05 Lariat screw, and my phasers took a dump on me last May, AFTER replacement with OEM kit. Pulled the pan and cleaned pickup tube screen, and all that jazz. Close to $700 down the drain.
I ended up replacing motor with reman. motor, but, if you go that route, be prepared. You will be miles ahead by pulling the cab...no joke...the motor CAN be dropped in from the top but, the stars have to align JUST RIGHT for it to happen. The biggest hurdle is the motor mounts and converter. It WILL NOT drop in on your 1st attempt, mine was up and down numerous times trying to get everything lined up. All told, it was about 4 hours worth of work, just to get it dropped in the hole.
Mind you, this was 2 very experienced mechanics doing the work. Hell, I've built racecars from a pile of tubing that weren't this hard...lol

A tech in the shop I'm at now did a swap last week... He took out radiator and core support. Seems like it took him around 4 hrs. total, by himself... We didn't really want to go that route with mine because of the gigantic mess you ALWAYS end up with, so we went up and over radiator. It definitely made me NOT want to do one EVER again... lol

Yeah.... Now im more confused than ever. The guy I know did an engine swap on the wifeys altima (1600 all said and done) what was supposed to be a "no more than five days" took 5 weeks and it turns out the engine is crap. So no way I would trust him to drop an engine on my truck. I might look more into jasper (not sure if thats the name) engine. Truck seems pretty solid other than the phasers making a ticking sound. Someone told me to do a compression test and if that turns out fine to just replace the phasers and go from there.
Either way I really appreciate all the feed back from you guys.

I did unbolt and remove the radiator..
I dropped a reman in mine in about 1 hour (4 hours to dress it out) Me and 1 other guy with a forklift.. It was an absolute breeze with short tube headers and valve covers pre installed.. The tourqe converter nuts were probably the hardest part, but that's only because I went with an aftermarket SFI heavy duty flexplate, that had tighter converter stud holes. The studs on the tourqe converter did not slide into those holes easily..
With an engine hoist and tranny Jack this job is not the easiest.. But if you ditch the hoist and use a forklift, it is 10 times easier.. My engine hoist at my house by all measures was going to be very iffy on getting the motor over the core support with the wheels on the ground.. (2.5"Leveled on 35's)
I also didn't have to unbolt the hood either. I just popped the hood Pistons off and propped it up as far back as I could get it..
If I had to do it again, I think I could get it in and out in about a day, with a forklift. Engine hoist would probably take 2 days.. I probably would not try and do this alone either, I'd rather pay someone to help.. Especially when pulling the old motor out.

Personally like everyone else, I'd do just replace timing components, you very well could get double your miles out of the original motor, so no point to swap at this point IMO.
Phasers are a relatively easy job, took me like 30 minutes per side to do phasers, I haven't done the other timing components.
I'd also recommend doing all OEM parts for the timing system, heard nothing but bad things regarding aftermarket timing stuff.
