Should this transmission flush be done every 30,000 miles or so? Or is that overkill? thanks for the great information all!!

A flush.. No, but if you add a drain plug a drain and refill is not a bad idea. But it could be construed as overkill... Premium fluid like amsoil should last a while.

Cool. I had the dealer put in my amsoil product 10,000 miles ago, so hopefully I am good for a few years. With 82,000 miles on my truck, I have had the transmission fluid ( and filter) changed twice. Sounds like I am being extra cautious, but oh well... love the truck!

so what exactly is the difference between a full flush and dropping the pan/filter/new fluid?

A flush or fluid exchange is supposed to remove all of the old fluid and suck everything out, and replace it with new right behind it. The pan drop just empties the tranny and doesn't effectively empty the cooler, torque converter and so forth. .

I think it's worth it. I have never done a trans flush and I had to get a new transmission at 150,000 or so miles and at 260,000 miles or so (will have to pull my records or old posts to tell ya exactly when). I'm going to do the flushes with this transmission and hopefully get a little more out of it.

Yea, don't wait too long...lol. I got mine done at 133k and I felt it was really worth it! I even felt that the shifting was much smoother and better overall.
