Default worth doing tranny flush??

on my 04 lariat ive got a hair over 130k miles right now and i dont think the tranny fluid was ever changed, had it for two years and ive never changed it myself. so with this amount of miles should i go and change the fluid or leave it ive heard with higher miles changing the fluid would be bad because it would be to thin.. true or no? if i should change what does everyone recommend. 5.4 also. thanks

It should have been changed out a while ago. I would change it. Too thin a fluid? Total myth. Check to see what the owner guide says for fluid and go with that. These transmissions are expensive to rebuild or replace, so the cost of the fluid change is cheap insurance. Personally, I would go synthetic but whatever the owner guide says will be fine.

Start with a pan drop and filter change. You are gonna wanna clean the magnet in the pan and get that white factory plug out if there. You could put a drain plug in the pan at that time and drain and fill it one more time. Then I'd go for a fluid transfer.

any brands you recommend? any additives or anything along them lines? she is starting to shift slightly harder when shifting to the next gear like say its shifting from 3rd to OD she will do a light clunk into gear that you barely feel but i can feel it progressing so wanna take care of the tranny before it does **** out on me exspecially spinning the 35s thanks for any input

I did a pan drop with castrol mercon V (5). I'm switching to amsoil transmission fluid this spring... So the castrol is just in for a temporary rinse... I might buy a new tranny cooler and bolt it in following a fluid transfer. Tranny coolers catch all the debris from a worn transmission. That's why I'm changing mine.. Just for a little extra clean insurance..

If you slipping already or having harsh engagements you should drop the pan first, change the filter and top off the tranny... I would add a drain plug to the pan to make changing the fluid much easier in the future.. You can get the sandwich plug that you bolt in if you don't have access to a TIG welder..
Don't go for a Trans flush considering your slipping. You will just shift debris around and get them lodged somewhere else.

I had some slight slipping, and did a pan drop, changed the filter, cleaned the magnet and pan, and refilled. Surprisingly, it took care of it.

And to many people's surprise, my trans didn't blow up a week later

No you won't have it on the TC, unless it was changed at some point...

I've put the sandwich plug on all my tranny's when the pan is down... Just don't over tighten the plug bolt when your done draining.
