Default WOOHOO! All 8 of my spark plugs came out without breaking - here's the method I used

I have a 2006 F150 Lariat super crew 5.4 3 valve. It has 83,000 miles on it, so I figured I'd change them now instead of the recommended 100,000. 17,000 miles less carbon build up.

For starters, I ran two cans of Sea Foam through the vacuum line hooked to the brake booster. I ran one can, let it sit for a couple hours. Then ran a second can and let it sit overnight. Much more smoke the second time, but not a ton. Then I ran a tank of gas with Sea Foam Gas Treatment. It took me a couple weeks to run the tank down and go through the treatment.

Today, I ran the truck to get it up to operating temperature with the intentions of using an impact wrench to break them free. I followed kozal01's awesome write up step by step. https://www.f150forum.com/f72/how-sp...-3v-v8-116291/

But, when it came time to break them free with my ratchet, they all broke free and felt pretty good. No creaking or grinding...so I slowly kept going and eased them out. 7 came out without a problem, one of them felt kind of tight, so I sprayed PB Blaster in the plug hole, and let it sit for about 20 minutes. Then, it came out without a hitch! Put high temp anti-seize on the new plugs and reinstallation was a breeze!

Now, everyone...sing along with me to Emerson Lake and Palmer's hit song..."OOOOOO, WHAT A LUCKY MAN...HE WAS!"

Do you have a 4.6 or 5.4?

Congrats! That's the first I've heard of someone without any problems. I have a 4.6 and just found out that it doesn't have the breaking problem so Im pretty relieved . Going to change mine soon

I think the Sea Foam helped a lot. I would definitely recommend using the engine cleaner, and the gas treatment for a tank. Maybe it isn't why it went so smoothly...but for a few bucks it's worth a shot!

I still got to do mine 109K on her. Im the third owner and have no idea if they were ever done yet. I will try the seafoam trick to get the carbon out before and then I will pray to GOD in Jesus name that they all come out.

Congrats on your success

Engine responds better. It feels like it gave it some power back.

Where do you put the sea foam in for the vacuum line?

I didn't use anything on my 05 5.4 and engine was cold.. yes they creaked but if it stopped if jerk the wrench back hard. Then ease them out 145k on them never broke any. ....
