Wont accelerate!
Hello My father inlaw has a 05 xlt with a 5.4. He tells me that after coming to a stop and taking back off he cant get it to go over 550 rpms and the service engine light is on. He said after he shut it off and started it back up it ran fine, this is the second time it happened. Any ideas of what it might be?

Sounds like the throttle position sensor. They are about $40. Have a look at this thread this seems very related to your issue...

Good luck.

A coworker of mine owns a 2005 5.4 that had this issue, I have this issue with my 5.4L. This morning in 4F weather, truck stalled twice on me, wrench light came on first time, check engine the second. Sounds like if it happens twice with in a 15 minute span, throws the check engine light codes. Turns out that he went in and cleaned the throttle plate and the issue went away. I just did that, I will see how it goes on my drive home today. Sounds like it should work.

Drive by wire huh? Well, thank goodness for technology like that . This is an example where a throttle cable is far superior to electronic gadgets, and can be fixed much cheaper.
my friend has a Hyundai Sonata like the one we have, and did the same thing, just idled. Drive by wire, actually the throttle body end of it, was the culprit.

I'd rather have it not accelerate than have it get stuck wide open (stupid toyotas) here at the dealership we've had a couple one we cleaned the throttle body and the other was a sensor throttle position i think but i'd try cleaning it first and see where that gets you first

My cable driven vehicles never stuck or "not accelerate". Old technology.
