Default wire hiding made simple

for those of you with a gps that mounts to the windshield and have an ipod hooked to the aux port on the dash this thread will make a lot of sense. for those that have after market head units and no gps this may be uninteresting but my be a good read anyways.

i got sick of always having wires hanging all over my dash. the ipod cable was the worst, running from the top of the dash all the way down to the floor and then up the front of the seats. then to make it worse my g/f always throws her purse between the front two seats and the wire gets tangled in it. then the gps is always mounted in the middle of the dash and the wire is in the way of the radio and gets tangled in the ipod wire..............f*ck i was sick of it. so today i fixed all that.

i got a sig lighter extention and cut off the male end of it. then with the female end remaining, i wired it to a switched 12v source behind the radio. i mounted my gps in the upper left hand corner and ran the power wire down behind the A-pillar and connected it under the dash to the sig. extention i just wired up. no more gps wires on the dash/radio

Then i made a small cut in the carpet just behind the very front of the seats, out of sight, out of mind. i ran my ipod (aux) cable through that hole, under the carpet to the back of the dash. i pulled the aux port out from the under side of the dash and hooked my aux cable to it behind the radio

the cable sticking through the carpet is long enough for me to hold the ipod in my lap yet i can tuck it out of the way between the jump seat and drivers seat when i want it out of the way.

my dash with everything hooked up but no wires showing

now im sure some of you are thinking, now you have a big hole in the top of your dash. i asked myself, which is the lesser of two evils and decited that id rather have a hole in the top of my dash then an aux wire running down the front of it. and i know an aftermarket head unit would take care of the need to even use an aux cable but right now i cant afford a double din head unit so im making due with what i can afford.

since i had the sig. lighter extension in my garage from a year or two ago when i had it in my stang, the whole job cost me absolutely nothing yet made the truck look much better. i dont expect everyone to go out and do this but i hope it inspires some of you to come up with some creative mods for your own trucks and then share them with the group.

and a special thanks goes out to adelfia14 for the smoking deal he gave me on my lift kit, wheels, tires and nerf bars. it was only supposed to be a 6" but for whatever reason, it lifted the truck about 8" making the 35" tires small. im not complaining tho

i bought the upper ams and 5" blocks separate.

Not a fan of the particular lift you installed, but your truck does look sweet. Where did you get the upper arms and how much $$$ did they cost? Thanks

the law was the main reason i moved it up there in the first place. normally i have the gps attached right in the middle of my windshield just above the dash. pretty noticeable by any cop driving by. with it up in the corner, its much harder to see from the outside of the truck. its also illegal to have anything hanging from the rear view mirror but when was the last time you saw some one get pulled over for that?

wxmcpo, when i can afford coilovers i will get them and itll be just as good if not better then any other kit out there. and since i only paid $1400 for the lift, wheels and tires, im not going to complain.

the upper arms are made by total chaos fabrication. they are about $700. camburg also makes a set for about $550 but the total chaos arms are better.

Hopefully you didn't take offense to me not liking the particular lift you put on there, no offense was meant at all. It's not about being better or the best, I'm just not a fan of the big ole 6" spacer up front. Hell though for $1400 total for it all I would have gladly put it on my truck as well and upgraded down the road. I do love those upper control arms, but can't see myself paying that kind of $$$.

no offense was taken i completely understand where your coming from. im not a fan of the 6" spacer either but when oppertunity knocks you better answer the door. the main reason i went with the upper arms is because i didnt want to deal with ball joints wearing out. if i could replace the lower as well with something metal i would
