Default Wiper Motor

My wiper motor is busted and the shop is asking 200+ to replace it. Anyone done this, it seems like it would be pretty easy.

Oh ya 04 FX4

Thank you great forum!

so i got a refurb motor from Auto Zone. The cap on it was different so i swapped it with the one on the old motor. I put it all in, easy enough. The wipers work BUT now they go one everytime i turn the truck on even whe the wipers are in the off position. AHHHHH

Dont know where to go from here, could it be a bad motor? Could the motor not be compatable with the cap i switched?

Any help would be great! Thanks!!

the $200 now sounds like a bargain considering all the time, trouble and frustration you are having and the expense of the referb motor

what do you mean by the cap? The black cover where the connector plugs in?
If so Its prob different, there are circuits in that cover and vary from make and model.
Was the connector different and wouldnt plug in?

Yes the black plastic cover where the connector plugs in. The one on the new motor was different than the one on the old motor. The new one would not plug in so i took the cap of the old one and put it on the new.

Now they turn on for 4 full swipes then turn off. Also only go one speed when on.

Ya, i took the lazy option on cleaning off my windsheild after snow up here in NH. The wipers where frozen and i cranked them up. The plastic gear in the motor lost a few teeth and the wipers would only go 1/2 way and get stuck. I know dumb move, lesson learned!

When i get a chance i will pick up the RIGHT motor and throw that in, i hope it will fix it!.
